Three18 is a student ministry at Southside Church, based in Clayton, NC. The ask from the group was to create a new brand for the youth-group. They wanted something that could carry over for many years to come. The logo was something that had already been selected for the group so the focus shifted to highlighting the groups identity and what made them unique.
The inspiration for the name of the group and the mission was that of 1 John 3:18. It reads, “Little children, let us not love in word or talk, but in deed and in truth”. The youth group meets regularly on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings. When spending time with the group it does not take long to realize that the highlight of the week is that of Wednesday night’s.
For this shirt design I decided to include some of the things that the youth group either do frequently, events that are held every year or simply hallmarks of the group. While there are many things that could be added to the list, I chose those that were probably most meaningful. Those things were as follows:
-The “haven”: This is the house that the youth group meets in, located behind the church.
-“Acoustic worship”: This is the way that the youth band leads their worship sets in the living room of the haven. These worship sets are very intimate and meaningful.
-“Engage”: This is the groups yearly summer camp that is put on by the group’s leaders for Three18 alone in the mountains of NC, a highly anticipated event every year.
-“Small Groups”: These are small groups of students broken up by age/grade so that the students have an opportunity to dive into what they’re studying, and struggling with. These are something that all of the kids look forward to every week.
-Lastly “in deed and in truth” book end the list on the back of the shirt, giving a nod to the youth group’s title verse.
